The Art of Made-to-Measure: How a Vane Kensington Suit Is Cut and Finished

A Vane Kensington suit doesn't start on a rack — it starts with your own measurements, a fit preference, and a length of cloth that hasn't been cut yet. Here's what actually happens between placing an order and a finished suit arriving at your door.

You provide the measurements, we provide the cut

When you order, you enter nine measurements in inches — chest, waist, hips, shoulder width, sleeve length, jacket length, trouser outseam, inseam, and neck — along with a fit preference of slim, regular or loose. Those figures travel with your order exactly as you entered them, through to the pattern that gets cut. There's no sizing chart standing in for your actual body.

Cut individually, not pulled from a rack

Because each suit is cut to a single set of measurements rather than graded across a size run, the jacket and trouser go together as one garment built around your proportions, not an approximation from S/M/L. That's also part of why a made-to-measure suit can't simply be exchanged for "the next size up" the way an off-the-rack suit can.

Finished by Hand

Once cut, each suit is assembled and finished by hand — the same hand-finishing standard we hold our silk ties to. It's a slower way to make a suit than machine-graded, mass production, and it's the reason a Vane Kensington suit costs more in time than it does in fabric.

Why it takes three to four weeks

Estimated production is three to four weeks from when fitting begins, before dispatch. That's the trade-off for a suit cut to you rather than to a size chart: nothing is pre-made and waiting in a warehouse. Once production has started, changes to your order may no longer be possible, so it's worth taking a moment with your measurements before you check out.
